Pope Francis, in fidelity to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, has called for a renewal in the life of the Church. He is calling us to return to our roots and embrace a synodal way of life. A synodal life is one of journeying together. It is a way of listening to others, discerning the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and carrying the Gospel to all people.

To aid us in this reform, the Holy Father has requested the participation of the whole Church and even the entire world. He has asked every parish to listen to all of God's children and report to him what we have heard. This is a multi-year process intended to open our hearts, learn new skills, and begin practicing the synodal way of life.

At a practical level, our parish will participate in this process with a survey and listening sessions. The Diocese of Knoxville has created a survey which explores different areas in the life of Church. We want your opinions, thoughts, and feelings. The survey is completely anonymous and is open to all people: practicing Catholics, those who have left the Church, and those who have never shared our faith or had any faith at all.

This is your opportunity to be heard, to speak to the Universal Church your deepest and most heartfelt thoughts and desires. We ask that every parishioner take the survey and to pass it on to family and friends. Then, in mid-January, we will have in-person listening sessions where we explore more deeply your thoughts and insights gained from the survey.
