The Alcoa-Blount County NAACP and Blount County United are presenting its second annual Race Relations Symposium via Zoom. The theme is “Embracing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.” The symposium will begin via Zoom on Friday, July 16, at 6:30pm and again on Saturday, July 17, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Events include a keynote speaker on the impact of racism on communities, a plenary session speaker, followed by two breakout sessions on the topics of Facing History & Ourselves and a racial wealth gap learning simulation. On Saturday, from 10:00am-11:45am an in-person youth session (middle/high school) will be presented at the Blount County Public Library on Creating Opportunities for Ourselves and for Others. Stories and art activities will be available for children in rising grades 1 - 5.
