There are homeless people living on our campus. That should bother us. Not because it is unsightly, or because they smell bad. It should not bother us because more may appear or that they make us feel unsafe.

What should bother us is the mere fact that they do not have a home and we have the resources to change that. Perhaps none of us individually can help, but together we definitely can. There is enough wealth, talent, and time in this community to help these people and all those who may come after them. We just have to love them as much as we love ourselves. We have to take Jesus at his word.

This is one of those times when have to decide who we really are as a community: followers of Jesus who are willing to shed their wealth and comfort for the sake of the Kingdom of God, or a people so burdened by possessions that we will not be able to pass through the gates of heaven. That is, we must decide heaven or hell. So, choose wisely.
