Our Week #8 Way to Care for Creation is to* keep our environment free of harmful products and pollution* that degrade the natural processes God in his wisdom put into place. Pope Francis consulted with scientists and philosophers when writing his Laudato Si encyclical, and it is here he explains "The way natural ecosystems work is exemplary: plants synthesize nutrients which feed herbivores; these in turn become food for carnivores, which produce significant quantities of organic waste which gives rise to new generations of plants. But our industrial system, at the end of its cycle of production and consumption, has not developed the capacity to absorb and reuse waste and by-products [LS 22]. One effective way we can practice this care in our own homes is to use natural cleaning products- white vinegar and water with some essential oils or lemon for wiping, and baking soda for scrubbing. Simple, cheap, and biodegradable!
