“Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience” [LS 217]. So states Pope Francis in his Laudato Si encyclical, in which we are instructed and encouraged, as true believers, to protect God’s creation, using only what is necessary for sustenance, and safeguarding it for future generations. Our Week #6 Way to Care for Creation is to clean and take care of green spaces, all of which are so essential for the health of the planet- soil, water, air, and wildlife. Whether we live in an apartment or on 100 acres, we can designate a generous portion of our outdoor space to regenerate native plants as well as supporting nation-wide movements for habitat protection. After all, “God saw everything he had made, and behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
