Shop at your Local Market for Fresh Food

In 2001, Pope John Paul II called for a global “ecological conversion”, stating that every effort to protect and improve our world entails profound changes in our lifestyles [LS 5]. Pope Francis’ Laudato Si encyclical likewise encourages us to adopt some very doable actions which take steps to not only improve our health, but the health and protection of God’s perfect creation. Here’s an action we can take with an impact three times a day- breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Our Week #4 Way to Care for Creation is to shop at your local farmers markets for fresh food. The meals we plan and the shopping we do can support local farmers and reduce the unnecessary waste and pollution that results from refrigerating and transporting food over long distances- it can also build community!
