Facts and figures related to climate change are now ubiquitous in the news, and disturbing images of fires and flooding not hard to find. A sometimes frustrating limitation of the related commentary is the lack of discussion of common sense daily changes we can make that will help turn this around. For us Catholics and all people of good will, it is a matter of deciding for and adapting to a less impactful way of life. “Reducing greenhouse gases requires honesty, courage and responsibility, above all on the part of those countries which are more powerful and pollute the most” [LS 169]. For example, the United States is in the top ten of countries using the most electricity per capita (US Energy Information Administration). Our Week #22 Way to Care for Creation is to reduce our household electricity usage- unplugging unused appliances is a start!
