People have been fleeing persecution and conflict for thousands of years, but recently increasing numbers are fleeing uninhabitable conditions caused by intense storms, typhoons, wildfires, and flooding; in effect, becoming refugees. People across the globe are being impacted by climate change - from Pakistan where recently a third of the country was flooded to Native communities in Alaska that have had to move entire villages away from increasing water levels. “Climate change…represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day. Many of the poor…have no other financial activities or resources which can enable them to adapt, and their access to social services and protection is very limited [LS 25]. And yet, most of those impacted have never contributed to the problem! Prayer changes things-our Week #21 Way to Care for Creation is to pray for those affected and seek the inspiration of the Holy Spirit for lasting solutions.
