“Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water; she is very useful and humble and precious and pure”. Beautiful, wise words from Saint Francis in the 13th century, and essentially prophetic in their implications for us in the 21st. How can we best modify our overuse of water? Through gratitude for this finite resource, and thoughtful consideration and change regarding wasteful practices. “Our goal is….to become painfully aware, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it” [LS 19]. Global temperature rise over several decades has been connected to changes in water and weather cycles, in effect changing precipitation patterns (ipcc.ch). Each choice we make to decrease our many heat-producing activities can benefit our useful, precious, and pure environment.
