Here at the commencement of this year’s Season of Creation (Sept 1 - Oct 4), we find that examining our awareness and commitment to protecting God’s creation as well as our commitment to Catholic social teaching and promoting the dignity of every person is an integrated awareness. “Today we have to realize that a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” [LS 49]. Our Week #15 Way to Care for Creation is to recognize these global cries, continue our advocacy, and initiate deliberate action - all of which are necessary if we are to mitigate the damage our consumer-driven societies have imposed on our one and only planet.
